About me

Mengyu Liu began her music journey at the age of 5, she is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Arizona State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance.

Mengyu enjoys her career as a classical pianist, chamber musician, church pianist and educator now. 

Mengyu recognized her interests in teaching in 2016 while she volunteered to teach in a summer music festival for a high school in China, She also directed one piano lesson in Desert Marigold School in the same year. Then she attended the piano pedagogy studies focused on an intermediate level and successfully finished with a master class given at ASU Organ Hall. Mengyu recognizes the personalities of each student and encourages them to learn from their learning styles. She customizes each lesson from students’ goals of learning piano, gets them well-rounded musicianship from playing, ear-training, and their own tastes in music.

As a pianist, Mengyu has performed in various international competitions, including the 7th Piano Competition in Shanghai, the International Open Competition in the category of “Liszt Memorial Award” and “Beethoven Sonata Award” in Hong Kong. Also performed as solo recitals and collaborative concerts in venues of Scottsdale Center for the Art, Tempe Center for the Art, Gammage Auditorium, Mission Bell Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church in Tempe, ASU Old Main Building and other senior centers. 

A recipient of numerous scholarships and awards of “Special Talent Award-Music Scholarship”, “Best collaborative musicians award” “Annual carillonneur scholarship”. And an award of “ Chamber Group 3 in the Baroque Style Music Academic Communication”.
